Antique Creil et Montereau Blue & White Pagoda Oval Platter – 19th Century French Transferware History & Craftsmanship A beautiful 19th-century French faience platter by Creil et Montereau, one of the most celebrated names in French ceramics. The oval platter features the Blue Pagoda / Potiche Chine decoration, with an elaborate chinoiserie landscape rendered in rich cobalt blue against a warm ivory ground. A pagoda, lush foliage, architectural elements, and an ornate floral border create the wonderfully layered decoration that makes early French transferware so collectible. Produced in France during the 19th century, the platter reflects the European fascination with East Asian decorative arts and the resulting chinoiserie designs that appeared throughout French ceramics of the period. The combination of its generous scale, classic blue-and-white palette, and highly detailed imagery makes this an especially striking display piece. Dimensions Approximately 14.2” L × 9.8” W (36 × 25 cm) Condition Good antique condition with age-related wear consistent with a 19th-century piece. No chips or cracks noted. Subtle signs of age and use contribute to its character and authenticity.
